Problem 3: Delaying the Decision

I hung out with a friend for most of the seminar. He is aware that I follow the “60 second rule”.

That rule is simple: take no longer than 60 seconds to make a decision.

So we’d go out to eat with a group of seminar attendees. It’d take them ten minutes to figure out where to go, another ten minutes to organize the carpools, and ten minutes more of bullshitting before we left the hotel.

In the time I could’ve cooked a meal from scratch.

Whenever either my friend or I would notice someone hesitating, we’d turn to each other and

say “60 second rule”.

You wouldn’t believe how many times we said that during the seminar.

It absolutely blows my mind how people get comfortable hesitating. I have conditioned myself to take action… not hesitate… because I know that taking action is a lot better thing to do than hesitating when it comes to making money.

Delaying the decision is worse than making the wrong decision. You can usually fix bad decisions.

You can’t fix indecision.

Problem 2: Not Understanding the “Point of Overwhelm”

The fact is I know exactly where I’m going with my business. I’m only interested in ideas that will get me there faster, or enhance what I’m already doing by making it easier or more enjoyable.

Learning how to use social media marketing from scratch will make the process longer, not shorter. Sure, people make millions off of it. But I’m not going to pretend there isn’t a massive learning curve to it.

There is.

One I don’t want to attempt, because I’d have to completely reinvent my business to incorporate it.

Not for me.

But most people at seminars leave with pages and pages of notes, almost a whole notebook full. I used to be one of them. You know how many times I’ve used notes like that?

Twice.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. Do we really do anything with the notes when we get home? So why clutter up your life anymore?

There is a point of overwhelm.

That’s when you have too much noise in your head. That’s usually caused by trying to take in 20 hours of content in three days. 20 condensed hours covering thousands of hours of experience.

When you leave yourself open to all possibilities, you end up choosing none. If I were starting over again from scratch, here’s what I’d do.

I’d go to the seminars until I heard a presentation that completely blew me away and got me excited.

Then, if that speaker had a course, I’d buy.

Then, I’d lock myself in the hotel room for the rest of the seminar. I’d devour that information.

By the end of the seminar, I’d already have an action plan on using that information, and have already completed several steps in it.

That means no more attending any other presentations. I’d only break at night to go network with other people, to develop mutually prosperous relationships for helping each other achieve our goals.

If I was too shy to network, then I’d just stay in the hotel room and act, act, act.

By the flight home, I’d have already put in 25 hours of work into my new internet business.

The momentum would them carry over to when I got home. With all my spare time, I’d know exactly what I should be doing. And that’s all I would be doing.

That’s not sexy though.

In fact, it kind of sounds like hard work, doesn’t it? That’s because it is…in a relative sense. You’re going to have to dig in for a bit. But trust me. My work days are very easy these days.

I don’t have to answer to someone else and I don’t have to put up with idiots.

It was totally worth those few months of solid, dedicated, action taking.

Here’s how you beat “the point of overwhelm”. First realize it exists. Second, whenever you feel overwhelmed, stop thinking. Overwhelm only comes from thinking too much.

What do you do instead of think?

Take action. Just go with something. Anything is better than staying in a state of overwhelm.

Problem 1: Not Realizing it’s ALL About Making Money

We had just gotten back from dinner. One of the attendees there showed me his website. The first question I asked was “How much money is this website making you?”

He stuttered. He stammered. He started to explain that this website was more about SEO than making money.

Wrong. It’s all about making money. If you’re doing something that isn’t making you money, stop it.

Better to admit you aren’t making money now than to try to hide it. What message is that sending to your unconscious? It’s sending a message that it’s okay and excusable to continue with your current behavior.

I do not think less of a person who isn’t making any money online. I do think less of a person who doesn’t want to admit it though, or who lies about it. The fact is, I can’t really help those people because their ego will get in the way.

It’s when you make it excusable to do stuff that doesn’t make you money, that’s when the problems occur. You’re justifying behavior that is counter productive to your end goal.

Jim Rohn says “affirm the truth” and I agree. It’s only when you look at the situation with accurate thinking can you formulate a plan based in reality. Otherwise, you’ll come up with excuses.

People are either really good at making money or really good at making excuses, but never good at both.

1. Just say no.  Spend enough time figuring out which mentors you relate to and want to learn from and then just say no to everyone and everything else.  Get off email lists and be selective about which blogs you read.

2. Get organized. Setup a file folder for each different strategy such as social networking, online video, PPC, article directories, etc.  Create the same directory structure in your email system.  Setup a physical binder with identical tabs. When you get valuable information, file it in the appropriate folder for easy retrieval in the future.  Print out the important information and put it in your binder.  Now when you need information on a specific topic you know where to find it.

3. Just do it. You don’t have to be perfect.  Read carefully because this is the most important step. Pick one online marketing method, and put it into practice.  Focus on this method and make it your highest priority.  Once you have it mastered you can then add a second method.  Prioritize tasks related to generating income at the top of your task list, and only spend time wandering around on the internet AFTER you have completed your income producing actions for the day and only if you have enough willpower to stop after a specific amount of time.

You will learn so much more by taking action it’s amazing. The heardest part can be the first step. Just do whatever you have to do to take that first step and watch how much easier the next step is.

I hate to have to consciously think. I like stuff that occurs automatically. Take breathing for example. I don’t have to force myself to breath. I don’t have to remind myself. I don’t have to learn how to do it. It just happens.

It’s a self-regulated system.

You need information product creation to be the same way. In order to do that, you have to as much as possible have a formula for always knowing what to say next.

I’ve discovered a formula that works really well for me. I studied the four main ways that people prefer to process information. Then, when I give them information in my info products, I just make sure to present it to match the four learning styles. Problem solved.

Find New Music

Most of the best music made this year will go unheard.

We have the Jane from Boston, who wants to find new music to make her feel good. She is not finding it on the radio. Myspace isn’t cutting it for her, as it’s more of a hassle to deal with new friend requests from mediocre bands than it is to find good music.

She resorts to her collection of old classics, listening to Dave Matthews Band’s “Under the Table and Dreaming” album and 3 Doors Down. Jane thinks, “I’d love to hear a band that took the Dave Matthews Band style and gave it an edgier 3 Doors Down sound. That’d be something I’d want to check out.”

Meanwhile, The Break Room from Nashville are struggling, playing in clubs for 15-20 people a night. Those people love the Break Room, and the heck of it is that the Break Room puts on an excellent show. Maybe Nashville isn’t the best place for the Break Room’s music, which happens to be a marriage of two styles: that of the Dave Matthews Band and 3 Doors Down.

Here’s the facts. Almost 300,000,000 people live in the United States. To go platinum in the music business it takes 1,000,000 records sold. So for the Break Room, 97 out of 100 people could hate them. But if the other three bought their album, that’s platinum.

Yet Jane is doomed to miss her potential new favorite band, and the Break Room will probably die an artist death from a lackluster career, because they couldn’t connect to those 3 people out of a 100 who wanted to hear them.

I have written this article to give you some tips on how you can find the band that is writing music specifically for you to hear.

IT JUST TAKES ASKING…

How many times have you bought a CD and was disappointed when you got home and listened to it? I’ll show you a cool technique that will stop this from ever happening again.

This works especially good at Borders Book Store but I’ve had success with it everywhere. If you ask nicely, they’ll almost always let you listen to a CD before you buy it. It’s not limited to the ones at the listening pod. Just simply ask an employee if there is any way you can listen to the CD you are tempted to buy. The only time they say no is when they only have one or two copies left.

This is a very convenient way to check out new music and it’s better than downloading sample mp3s for many reasons. First, the sound quality is better. Second, it is less time consuming and you don’t have to worry about viruses. And lastly, you get the actual listening experience as it’s intended to be. This means a more pleasureable experience for you!

Experiment. When was the last time you bought an album just because it had interesting cover art? Probably rarely if ever. Simply check an album out because the man on the cover is handsomely mysterious, or because you wonder if that guy in the clown suit really can play a mean guitar.

It’s simple. Just grab a CD that you are contemplating purchasing, ask a worker if you can hear the album first because you aren’t sure if you want to buy it, and 95 times out of a 100 your request will be fulfilled. They want you to make purchases at their store that you are happy with, so they are willing to help you out.

FAMILIARITY BREEDS COOL MUSIC

Last time I was at my Dad’s house I looked through his CD collection and found the following:

Metallica: Master of Puppets

Cherry Poppin Daddys: Zoot Suit Riot

George Strait: Strait out the Box, box set

Ray Charles: Genuis Loves Company

Straiht Wikid Crew: Kali Yuga Demolition Vol. 1

Wow. I never knew how diverse my Dad’s musical tastes were until I actually looked at his CDs. What a cool guy! Everything from metal (metallica) to rap (Straiht Wikid Crew).

The Cherry Popping Daddys were a band I’d heard about for many years but I had never listened to. I was never into the swing/big band style too much. I put it in the CD player and liked it. It made me want to dance. So I went out, bought the album and I’m happy with the choice I made.

Your friends and family have a whole collection of music that you may be unaware of. Browse their music and check out new stuff. See what you like. Find out what you don’t like. Don’t spend a penny. Be in control of what you decide you should hear as opposed to what is forced upon your ears.

And do the same in return. Let others preview your music collection. This can enrich your appreciation for you favorite musicians when you are able to discuss it with a new fan who happens to be a good friend.

THE LIBRARY IS STILL FREE

It’s free and now it’s very convenient. It ’s the library.

Most towns have their catalog online. I log onto the library’s card catalog from home looking for a certain CD. If they have it, I reserve it, and then I go down and pick it up.

Most libraries have inter-loan programs now, which are also searchable online. Because of this I have access to over 40 libraries. I simply reserve the CD I want and select my local library for the pick up location and 2-4 days later they call me and let me know my CD is in. I can’t believe how many people don’t know about this wonderful service!

The library is your musical friend. If you know this, you have thousands of albums at your finger tips for free.

MYSPACE & Beyond

In space nobody can you hear you scream. In myspace, you can hear anybody scream who has a cheap computer microphone and knows how to upload an mp3.

It’s a cesspool of music that isn’t so pleasing.

Here is what I like to do to kill the clutter. I find a great band that I already like. I then locate their myspace page. Often times I try myspace.com/bandname first. If I can’t find anything there I do a search for them on myspace and they either come up or a fan that is in love with them will come up. I then go to that person’s myspace page and 4 times out of 5 that band is in her top 8 friends. Click away.

I like Neutral Milk Hotel. I tried myspace.com/neutralmilkhotel and their page came up. Now here’s what I do. I look at Neutral Milk’s top 8. Often times these bands have bands they like in their top 8. So I check out THEIR favorite bands. I found a cool band called Donkey Boy on myspace by using this tactic. Who will you find?

CONCLUSION

I know you want to find music you love, and you want to find it quickly and conveniently, without spending a bunch of money. If you follow these tips in this article, I can assure that your life will be enriched with wonderful music with little effort on your part. All glories to you!

How To Build A Prospect List Fast

First let me start off by telling you what this article is NOT about. I am not going to tell you what autoresponder service to use, and how much to spend. I will not go into the details of using autoresponders and their benefits. Why won’t I talk about that? Because none of it is relevant if you can’t inspire anyone! Learning how to build a prospect list fast is all about inspiring others. Prospects act emotionally when inspired. You are looking for that emotional reaction since it causes prospects to click into the next level of your funnel where they are attempting to gather more information, since you now have their interest. There are many ways to inspire prospects. I will delve into a few of them as I teach you how to build a prospect list fast!

Gaining Credibility In Your Prospects Eyes, Part I

Inspire: Stimulate somebody to do something; to encourage somebody to greater effort, enthusiasm, or creativity.

Did you ever have a teacher, or maybe even a family member, who was able to pull just a little more out of you than you thought you had? You probably have, or had, a great relationship with that person, they are someone you looked to for answers, even if they may not have been the authority on the subject your question was about. That is the relationship you want with your prospect. You need to touch them emotionally to gain that huge credibility and trust.

Understand this; 80 to 90% of the people who are reading your articles, or watching your videos, are just like you. They may be at different stage of success than you, but they are in that stage where they are looking for that someone to throw out the rope, and reel them into the boat of real money makers in the affiliate marketing, or article marketing industry. They have tried numerous times, and failed. Some of them are ready to give up. Others are still hungry and know they can do it, but need a better formula. By the way…I am throwing you a huge rope right now by explaining this psychological tactic to you. Anyhow, Inspiring the prospect involves two things: 1) Relating to their issues of failure.  2) Identifying their limiting beliefs. Most times, the limiting beliefs are these three common examples. I don’t have the time. I don’t have the money. I have already failed so it doesn’t work. Sometimes, such as in a forum, or discussion board, you might be able to get people to express exactly what it is they are struggling with. Now… defeat the limiting beliefs. Once these two things are accomplished, the prospects brain suddenly sees a clear path ahead and says, “I can do this! I just didn’t have the right information.”

How To Inspire Your Prospect

Okay, you now know that their roadblocks are one of the common three, or something else they told you. Your job now is to smash their roadblocks with easy to follow and easy to execute, step by step processes. For instance, let’s use “I don’t have the time”. I would ask that prospect to write down all the activities he or she does outside of work and kid time. Anything like watching Desperate Housewives or ER is time better spent on you. Identify the non productive activities and reiterate that this is a change you are making, and a sacrifice in the short term to achieve a big goal! Help the prospect design a ‘hour calendar’ breaking down the evening into hours, and what tasks will be done at that time. Encourage them to have someone hold them accountable, like a kid. Nothing feels worse than when your kid is disappointed in you! Wow! Now you have a couple of hours at night to dedicate to writing articles for instance. Your kids hold you accountable, so they are part of your plan. Roadblock #1 gone, now what? Roadblock # 2. Do the same routine until all roadblocks are gone.

Does This sound Familiar?

If you are in sales it should. The whole object of the salesman asking you what your objections are to purchasing tonight, is to identify roadblocks and then smash them. “Now that all your worries have been alleviated Mrs. Jones, how would you like to pay? Cash or Charge?” It is all the same thing. The difference is, we will knock down the barriers as we go, enabling the prospect to come to their own conclusion that they actually can do this, if they follow the plan and MAKE A CHANGE.

“Change Happens In An Instant!”

One of my all time favorite motivational speakers, Anthony Robbins, says, “Change happens in an instant” The steps you take to make the change may take a while, but the change happens within you instantly. The second you have decide you’ve had enough mediocrity, and bill collectors harassing you, that time will come. If you are that article marketer, who just can’t break through, or that MLMer who has been jaded by several attempts at success, with none to show for it, you need to make a decision. ALL IN or Get out!

The Beggar From The Bible

In ACTS 3: 1-9 There is a beggar outside the Temple waiting for people to have mercy on him and give him money. He was born a cripple and came to expect his situation could never change. Along comes Peter and John, disciples of Jesus. The beggar asks for their mercy expecting a coin. Instead Peter commands the beggar to look at him. Peter says, “I have no money to give, but what I do have, I will give you” He took the beggar by the hand and commanded him to rise and walk. The beggar did just that. He then entered the Temple to sing Praise to the Lord.

In no way am I connecting this Biblical story to any modern day life. The point to be taken here is this; The gift Peter and John gave the beggar is already in all of us. We need to make the decision to get up and ‘walk’. We must stop focusing on the bad things that have happened and the failures, and make a Decision in an instant! To focus on ‘walking’. In our case ‘walking’  means pushing on with a new formula and committing to yourself, and your family’s financial security. You won’t ‘walk’ overnight, but you will start down a path laid out for you by a committed mind. The committed and focused mind notices things it hadn’t before, like people who can help in this new journey.

When you are able to inspire people through articles and reports, you will have mastered how to build a prospect list fast. These are the basic tactics that enable great marketers to reach more prospects, and cause them to take action!
